ABOUT DR. ANTHONY MONTOYA

When Dr. Anthony Montoya was practicing the twist and crack technique of traditional chiropractic care, he came to the insightful realization that the Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic Technique was truly changing lives. Dr. Montoya was already a believer in the healing power of chiropractic from a young age. He saw his mother healed of debilitating migraines and experienced relief from his own lower back pain as a
teenager.

Then, Dr. Montoya witnessed a friend’s nearly miraculous, speedy healing and recovery through Upper Cervical Chiropractic adjustments. His chiropractic college classmate and colleague, Dr. Drew Hall, now President of the Blair Society, had exhausted all manner of other treatments over a two-year period without success.

However, Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic care returned him to full, pain-free function in only three weeks. This was the turning point that brought Dr. Montoya to his chosen focus of Upper Cervical Chiropractic care.

Through Upper Cervical Chiropractic adjustments, Dr. Montoya has experienced the healing of severe childhood asthma. He also notes that he only gets sick very infrequently, and when he does come down with something, the symptoms are less severe and don’t last long. Dr. Montoya has witnessed similar changes in the lives of his patients through the healing power of the Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic Technique.

SERVICES

The Upper Cervical Chiropractic technique is an innovative and specialized type of chiropractic care. It targets the upper cervical bones at the top part of the neck, directly below the skull. Many kinds of injuries and traumas—even a mild bump to the head—can put the upper cervical spine out of correct alignment. When alignment is lost in the upper cervical spine, pain, stiffness, and lost range of motion can result. A failure in upper cervical alignment can create a barrier to optimal health and healing.

The Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic Technique targets two unique bones at the top of the spine. The first is the atlas, which is the spinal bone located directly below the skull. The second upper cervical bone, the axis, is located directly below the atlas. These two bones surround the brain stem and the spinal cord, two essential elements of the body’s nervous system. Consequently, impairment in the alignment of these two vertebrae can irritate nerves and interfere with signaling from the brain stem and spinal cord to vital areas of the body.

The Blair Technique uses a very gentle and quick adjustment to the atlas and axis. An upper cervical adjustment is based on physics and mathematics-based measurements to maximize its effect. It is a lighter adjustment than the twisting, cracking, snapping, or popping that patients usually associate with chiropractic care. The neck is never twisted, forced, or manipulated. The correction is so light and quick that patients may wonder if anything has been done!

The Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic Technique aims to affect or correct the alignment, motion, and function of the upper cervical vertebrae. Furthermore, once the atlas and axis are correctly aligned, the rest of the spine should also fall into proper alignment, promoting whole-body healing. Upon healing, the lost function is fully restored, and patients can return to their busy routines and active lifestyles.

Cone Beam CT Scan

Upper Cervical Chiropractic of Arizona offers precise, state-of-the-art near 3-D x-rays that provide views of the spine not available in regular x-ray films, MRIs, or CT studies. Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a specialized type of x-ray that can view the upper cervical area in three dimensions (3-D). These 3-D images provide critical information that allows Dr. Montoya to visualize and measure the upper cervical misalignment in an unprecedented way.

Traditional x-rays are two-dimensional (2-D). Unlike a 2-D view, a 3-D image can provide an analysis of specific factors like anatomical and structural variations, positioning errors, and asymmetry. The additional information gained from a 3-D model can produce an accurate, customized diagnosis. Then, a measurement can be determined for the optimal adjustment, based on each patient’s unique anatomy.

Spinal Molding and Stretching

The spine should bear the burden and stress of gravity on the body, not the muscles. However, people generally place a great deal of pressure on the muscles surrounding the spine when working on the computer, staring at the phone, watching TV, and more. Correctly performed spinal molding can redistribute the stress of gravity from the muscles back to the spine, where it belongs.

Taking the stress off the muscles through spinal molding and stretching can reduce neck pain, lower back pain, and muscle soreness. These simple stretches provide gentle spinal traction while simultaneously stretching the muscles and ligaments. This technique can re-train the posture and restore the neck’s natural spinal curve. It can also help to ease muscle pain from muscle weakness and fatigue.
